Our Girls Who Code Clubs offer 5th-8th grade girls the opportunity to learn about STEM through the lens of an underrepresented STEM professional or college student during an 8-week course. Students will learn the fundamentals of computer science and basic programming structures such as loops, functions, variables, and conditionals. All culminating into their final coding project through the platforms Scratch. At HFSV, we pride ourselves on our model of representation within our education programs. Our club facilitators are Latinas in Technology Scholars who are majoring or have graduated in a STEM degree. This allows our students to see themselves through their facilitators, and learn from their facilitators’ experiences of being first-generation Latinx students in STEM. In 2021, HFSV had 84 Santa Clara County middle school girls graduate from our Girls Who Code clubs.
