Message from President & CEO

During this shelter in place every day I take a 4-mile walk and listen to music. Last week, as I was walking, the popular song by Marvin Gaye called, “What’s going on?”, played.

This song is still relevant to today. Although much has changed since the 60’s - 70's, there is still much more to do.

There is no denying that we’ve all been experiencing a multitude of emotions in recent weeks. The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley stands with you in solidarity and with those who continue to fight for justice.

When the Black community suffers. We all suffer. We must elevate our communities and work together.

As the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley continues to inspire community philanthropy and engage people to invest in the educational excellence, leadership development, and convening and engaging the Hispanic community in Silicon Valley, we are reminded about the challenges we have ahead in education as we enter into summer 2020. Every year there is summer learning loss which is the loss of academic skills and knowledge in math and reading.

Now, due to COVID-19 and early school closures there is much research that indicates summer learning loss will double this year. Learning loss has the potential to undo one year’s worth of learning for our youth. To learn more about research study conducted by NWEA.org click here.

This does not need to be our reality. This summer, the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley is offering online math proficiency courses, high school AP biology courses, Girls Who Code workshops, a College Readiness Bootcamp, and Parent Education Academies. Our goal is to reach over 150 students and parents.

You can help us continue to elevate our communities of color by supporting our students and parents.

Please donate today.

Thank you,

Ron Gonzales
