HFSV STEM Education Summer Programs 2021

Published: Tuesday, June 29, 2021

Throughout this year, the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley (HFSV) has completely shifted its efforts to transition all STEM education, college prep, and parent education programs to online learning platforms. This summer will be no exception as our virtual learning courses are ready to launch this month through August!

It is clear that COVID-19 has had devastating impacts on our Latinx community, which is why at the HFSV we strive to address the summer learning loss gap to help students get back on track. In efforts to continue providing learning opportunities and access to our students and families, the HFSV will be running virtual summer programs at every level of our Cradle to Career model.

For our HFSV community of parents, the HFSV and HOLA South Bay! is developing our Aprendizaje Digital (Digital Literacy) courses that will teach families how to use Google Drive and other online tools. At the elementary and middle school levels, students will focus on core math concepts, algebra I proficiency, and video game designing through our longtime partners at Silicon Valley Education Foundation in their Elevate Math program, as well as our newest partners, Calculus Roundtable, who will be launching their “Think Like A VideoGame Designer” class pilot at McKinley Elementary next month!

Additionally, our second annual virtual “College Essay Writing Bootcamp,” hosted by Dr. Roxanne Ocampo through Quetzal Mama will run for five weeks with East San Jose high school incoming juniors and seniors to help them with their essay writing skills that will prepare them for their college applications coming soon!

Last but not least, our Latinos in Technology scholars will have the opportunity to join our Summer cohort of Career Launch Academy - Empowered Students where they will participate in group coaching focused on professional development such as resume writing, professional social media presence, and informational interview skills.

The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley cannot do any of this work without you! If you are interested in donating, click here. If you are a Latinx professional working in high-tech and would like to serve as a mentor through our Conexiones Program feel free to reach out to our Education Programs Manager, Melissa Canela as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to improve the quality of life for the Latinx community in Silicon Valley.
