Conexiones Mentorship Program

Become a Mentor

The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley is in search of dedicated professionals and advocates willing to volunteer their expertise and provide support to Latinx STEM college students to cultivate leadership and professional development skills.

Latinos in Technology Scholarship recipients are carefully matched with dedicated STEM professionals who serve as allies, advisors, and supporters. Mentors will be matched with a 3rd or 4th-year Latino undergraduate college student pursuing a STEM-related major to provide college and career development guidance via a 1-hour monthly meeting over the course of the 5-month program.

Mentors are paired with scholars pursuing a compatible educational and career trajectory. A Program Overview curriculum document is provided to guide and navigate each session and aims to strengthen scholars’ resumes, interviews, and SMART goal-setting skills. Mentors may also help with exploring careers, setting goals, developing contacts, and identifying resources in hi-tech careers.

Mentors Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree in a STEM-related major or relevant professional experience.
  • Currently employed Full-time/Part-time in the STEM industry.
  • Committed to supporting a first-generation Latino college student in STEM to navigate post-grad entry-level employment or graduate degrees.
  • At least 1 hour per month, for 5 months, to mentor a student.
  • You do not need to be an expert in your field. Your personal and professional experience is sufficient.

Program Cycles:

  • Fall 2023: October 2023 – February 2024
  • Spring 2024: April 2024 – August 2024
  • Fall 2024: October 2024 – February 2025

Upon completing your application, a team member will contact you no later than October 2024 if you are selected to be a mentor for the fall cycle and will connect you via email with your mentee.

It is important to note that while we strive to match all our scholars with mentors, there is a possibility that you will not be matched during this particular cycle, in which we will notify you and reconnect with you again for the next cycle.

Your guidance can shape futures! Take the first step and fill out the mentorship application.
